KREUZLINGEN HAFENPLATZ

KREUZLINGEN HAFENPLATZ

Bronze Hasenpreis Landschaft Die Besten 2003
Urban plaza at front of Lake Constance

Kreuzlingen, Switzerland

The designed plaza of Kreuzlingen allows a new relation from the city to the lake. Through making it accessible, on one side from the city to the water, and on the other from the water to the city, for the visitors who experience this place as a new door and entrance to the city of Kreuzlingen.
The wide concrete plaza slopes down gently to the lake with ramp-stairs where a few painted concrete seats invite you to rest and observe. Engraved signs refer to themes related to the city of Kreuzlingen: its history, its culture, its industry and its engagement in ecology.A concrete fountain, a continuous research theme in Paolo Bürgis work, refers to erosion of the canals on the plane. Physics rules and optical themes have been applied for its illumination. Scattered light points reflect the starry sky on the plaza.
